Discovering God’s Timeless Nature

There are so many misunderstandings and misinterpretations about the book of Revelation. But to understand the Bible, we must first grasp the concept of God’s timeless nature.

Many times, we think we know someone, but as we learn more, we realize there is so much more to discover. The only way to truly learn about them is to spend lots of time together. This holds true especially with God.

As we seek to know more about God’s nature, our knowledge draws us closer to Him, and our faith grows stronger. Both are vitally important. Without a firm grasp on who God is and without accepting by faith that He says what He means and means what He says, we can easily become confused, discouraged, and vulnerable to false teachings.

Today, we will explore three essential aspects of God’s nature:

  • Omnipresent: God is eternal and present everywhere at all times.

  • Omnipotent: God is all-powerful, with ultimate authority.

  • Omniscient: God is all-knowing, fully aware of all things past, present, and future.

God: The One Who Was, Is, and Is to Come

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”  (Revelation 1:8)

God is omnipresent. He exists beyond the boundaries of time. He is not simply ancient; He is eternal, without beginning or end. He holds the titles of Alpha and Omega—not because He has a beginning or an end—but because all things begin and end in Him.

The things that limit us (time, space, knowledge) do not limit God. He dwells in a glory beyond human comprehension. He is not merely seated on a distant throne in a high and holy place; He is present everywhere, intimately involved in His creation.

God: The One of Unlimited Power

God is omnipotent. His power has no boundaries. There is no force, spiritual, natural, or manmade, that can successfully thwart Him.

"For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together."
(Colossians 1:16-17)

Through Scripture we see that God spoke galaxies into existence. He parted seas, healed the sick, and raised the dead. He breaks every spiritual, emotional, and physical chain. Every prophecy and promise is secure because He reigns with eternal power.

God: The One Who Knows All Things

God is omniscient. He has full, perfect, unlimited knowledge of the past, present, and future. Nothing is hidden from His sight, not even our innermost thoughts.

"Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come."
(Isaiah 46:9-10)

Since God has always been, there is nothing that exists that God does not know about. And because His knowledge is limitless, only God has the right to declare truth, redeem creation, and perfectly fulfill every promise. He knows every joy and sorrow we experience, and He is working His eternal purposes through it all.

A Simple Illustration: The Parade of Time

Imagine standing along a parade route. You can see the floats that have already passed (the past), those currently before you (the present), and some that are still approaching (the future).

Now imagine viewing the parade from high above—from a helicopter, hilltop, or the sky. You could see the entire parade—beginning, middle, and end—all at once. This is how God sees time.

I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever.
Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it.
God does it so that men should fear before Him.
Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before,
and God will call the past to account."
(Ecclesiastes 3:14-15)

God is not restricted by the ticking of a clock. He is intimately present in every moment, fully aware, fully in control. This perspective brings immense peace: nothing surprises God. Nothing is beyond His reach.

Psalm 139: A Portrait of God’s Nature

Psalm 139 beautifully captures God’s omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence.

"O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
You know when I sit down or stand up.
You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.
You know everything I do.
You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.
(Psalm 139:1-5)

There is so much more to this psalm. I encourage you to grab your Bible and read it in its entirety. Each verse reveals a God who knows us perfectly, surrounds us completely, and holds us securely in His mighty hands.

Trusting a Timeless God

Understanding God's timeless nature is foundational for understanding Revelation and for living by faith today. When we realize that God is always NOW, the Great I Am, we are set free from fear and uncertainty. His promises are certain. His Word is true.

But discovering God’s timeless nature isn’t just about gaining knowledge. It’s about deepening a relationship with the One who holds all of history, including your story, in His hands.

Realizing that God is eternal, all-powerful, and all-knowing allows us to rest in His promises with unshakable confidence. This truth should also stir us to action. God invites us continually to know Him more intimately through His Word. The pages of Scripture reveal His heart, His ways, and His eternal purposes.

In a world full of uncertainty, we need to be rooted in who God truly is.

Will you accept His invitation?

Will you set your heart to seek Him, not just for answers about the future but for a deeper relationship with the God who was, who is, and who is to come?

Open your Bible. Get to know and trust Him. Listen for His voice. Grow in faith, confidence, and joy, knowing that the God who holds the future also holds you.

Let’s Pray

Lord God, You are the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. Thank you for being present in every moment of our lives.
Please strengthen our faith to trust You completely, to believe in Your promises, Your power, and Your perfect plan.
Lord Almighty, help us to see the world through Your eternal perspective.
Fill us with Your peace as we rest in Your sovereignty. We thank you, love you, and worship you. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
